ABOUT
I grew up around all kinds of different animals and have been an animal lover for my entire life. I have always been especially fascinated by Maine Coons. This cat breed is, in my opinion, "the" perfect cat. My husband, knowing how much I have always wanted a pure bred, that's what he decided he would get me for my 50th birthday.
Beginning the search, we figured that, with how popular the Maine Coon breed is, it wouldn't be that hard to find a quality kitten. Well, we were wrong, it is- very hard. The hardest part, was first sorting out the scammers from the legitimate breeders, which there are unfortunately a plethora of. Locating a breeder who actually had kittens available from parent cats that were healthy, was the next step. I wasn't even thinking about breeding or "breeding rights" back then, I just wanted to find a healthy kitten from a reputable breeder.
Eventually and luckily, we found one only a three hour drive away from us. In October, six months after beginning the search, we brought home a gorgeous Black Silver Classic Tabby female kitten, which I named, "Uno".
By the time Uno was six months old, and remembering the experience that we had went through to find my "birthday kitten", my thoughts turned to potentially becoming a breeder myself. Since making the decision, I spent the last couple of years; educating myself on the Maine Coon breed standard, responsible breeding practices, feline nutrition-specific to the Maine Coon, cattery management, and feline husbandry, all while sourcing the best possible breeding cats to start my Maine Coon foundation line.
Although Uno was purchased by a reputable breeder, the health history of her parents couldn't be proven to be sound, so it was decided that Uno would be spayed. She is "Uno"- a perfect name considering where we are now. She is my gift, my heart, and pretty much Tiny Titans Cattery's mascot.
Our cattery is located in the "heart of the country"- just south of central Ohio, near Circleville -home to the famous annual Circleville Pumpkin Show, said to be "the greatest free show on Earth".
We can't wait to make your dreams come true with a future Tiny Titans Maine Coon!
GOALS
The starting goal of our program was to obtain our breeding cats from different geographical areas within the U.S. and from the most diverse lines possible- which promotes stronger genetics and more robust immune health in future generations.
We want our "kitten clients" to be safe in the knowledge that our kittens, both pet and show quality, are not only exceptional in appearance and have excellent temperaments- they are most importantly, in the best possible health.
We strive to breed towards Maine Coon features that we adore in this breed- sort of a mix between "American" and "European" Maine Coons. And while that might not be completely to what someone references as the "breed standard", remember- that "standard" is fluid. It means different things between different feline associations and has changed throughout the years. The definition of that "standard" is also dependent on who makes the "rules".
We do not plan to show our cats. The breeding circuit is frankly, too time-consuming and not for every cat-or human. It is also expensive and not a requirement for breeding a quality cat. Just look at our current litter of kittens if you don't believe us! We instead, intend to focus and dedicate our time, energy, and money, on our cats at here at home.
We do however look forward to following our kittens as they grow with their new families-and will cheer them on should they decide to enter them competitively!
